I mean… didn’t I just get married like almost a week ago and now my husband (hehehehe) has to start spring training ALREADY?! Plz don’t take him away from me :, ( I’m kidding..kind of. We, because it definitely takes an entire family when it’s a sport this long + serious, have been preparing for this for a long time now. Jake has been getting his mind mentally ready + his body physically prepared. I like to think that me being into fitness/health makes it easier for him to stay focused because we’re in it together. We’re there to motivate each other and swat away the bad food (besides the cookie dough..). What I’m trying to say is that I was basically Jake’s trainer ; ) I’m really proud of how dedicated and focused he has been these past few months. It’s not easy when you have toddlers who drain almost all your energy.. but that’s why I’m staying home now to help him stay 110% focused!
Usually Jake wouldn’t be starting ST until later towards the end of month. But since he has a big league invite (eeekk!) he will be reporting TOMORROW. I usually only can make it to two ST games because I’ve always been working + school. But since I am now officially a stay at home, me and the kids plan to be super fans to these games! Body paint and all, people. We mean business lol. For those who aren’t familiar with how spring training works, this is somewhat how it usually goes for our family:
Jakob wakes up at the butt crack of dawn to drive the hour to Surprise. This is totally our decision though. We could have picked to live closer but we love our home/location! Some night he will stay with friends in surprise to limit the amount he is driving back and forth (feel free to ask me to go to dinner those nights lol). He spends his mornings + early afternoon there stretching, throwing, shagging BP, and all the other things that he doesn’t really tell me about. No, he is not at a game every single day- but almost every day. And when you see a ROYALS vs. CUBS game that doesn’t necessarily mean that Jake is there. People often think when ever they see a Royals game they should expect to see him on the mound. Typically not the case because there’s different levels that different people are playing at and not all those games are in the big league stadiums. Confusing, I know.
He never knows what time his day will end until they tell them..which is another important reason I’m at home now. We couldn’t have a nanny on call basically 7-6 while I was at work.. just wasn’t plausible. So yay for me being home now!
Jake won’t find out where he is going until literally 4 days before the season starts. Could be anywhere. We always pray for the best, but we refrain from making concrete plans because 1) don’t want to jinx it and 2) YA JUST NEVER KNOW. So as far as where we will be living- we don’t know. We won’t know until after he knows. And when we know, we will let all friends and family know as well. But for now, we aren’t worried about it. We are just going to enjoy his first Big League camp invite and enjoy our last few months in our home as a family. Because one thing is for sure- once the season starts, Jake won’t step foot in our house until the season ends : ( People don’t often realize that about baseball… there’s no consecutive off days that would allow you to go “home”. But that’s ok, it means more traveling for us and more memories to be made elsewhere! We are excited for this season, it’s going to be a great one! And we can’t wait to share it all with you guys!
Here is an adorable picture of Penelope running around like a wild woman. Enjoy.
